“When written in Chinese the word “crisis” is composed of two characters – one represents danger and the other represents opportunity.” ~John F. Kennedy
I had a few misconceptions about my life before P90X: 1) I thought I was in shape. I am not. And 2) I thought I had a lot of spare time. I do not.
I’ll expand on number 2 first: between work, my daughter, tithing my life, etc., I have some free time, but the 90 minutes per day it takes to do many of the P90X workouts is a lot! I have had to cut out pretty much all television. I can watch television only on cardio days when the workouts are only an hour.
Number 1, my fitness level, now: I am in pretty good shape. But the first day I attempted the chest and back workouts on P90X, I didn’t complete even 75% of the workout. I kept trying, but after about 200 pushups, I just had to be done with that exercise. The same went for pull-ups. After a few sets of ten, I just had to be done. In one hour, I did more pushups than I had in a month and, possibly, more pull-ups than I had done in a year! I thought I was in good shape with cardio exercise; plyometrics proved me wrong.
Two days in and I want to die, but I am hooked!
